Dreams

I really think I’m affected in various ways by the changes in the atmosphere. It used to be that I always took a fall in March – for years, that was the only time I fell. This year changed that because I seemed to have kissed the floor more often than other years. I also notice that at certain times, I feel better physically. It’s just my perception, I know, but perception can be reality.

I’m taking note, too, that right now, my dreams are a lot more vivid. I always dream in epic proportions – I have since I was a child. They’re in full Technicolor, and I can remember every minute detail. I also find that I really can return to a dream if I’m awake for a short time. If I get up in the middle of the night to use the loo, I just keep the idea of the dream in my head, and I can pick it up where I left off. I’ve read articles about dreams that insist that isn’t possible, but it works for me.

I can usually trace the significance of the dream to something that occurred in real life, but sometimes (as in some recent ones) they’re way off the scale! The one I’m thinking of from two nights ago had to do with an apocalyptic-like story. I was at a specific place in Ocean City, where I spent my childhood summers. I look out to the ocean and see a series of explosions and fires there, wrecking ships and ?amusement parks? I immediately grab my cell phone and call my parents (they’re both in heaven in real life) to see if things are all right there. They also saw the explosions and are being invaded by enemy troops. My mother was upset because they took away my father’s driver’s license. I also couldn’t get in touch with my kids, but my sister and husband were there with me. Then I became some a sort of genius superhero, being able to save everyone from these enemy invaders. Now, where did any of that come from??? That’s just one in a long line of weird, but very life-like dreams I’ve had. Some go back to school days, others are in present day. I should get a book and research the meanings, but I’m not sure I’d be prepared for some of it.

One thing that makes me smile about the dreams is that I’m very rarely disabled in them. I can still walk, run, move about freely, and just be the normal person I once was. That part I wish was true! Another thing that I’ve noticed is that many people who have died are alive again in the dreams, even though the action is occurring in the present. In many cases, I wish that were true as well. Even the scenery – inside and outside – is so realistic and vivid, that I could draw pictures of it in my mind when I’m awake.

It’s a weird occurrence, but I’m sort of getting accustomed to it. Having strange dreams isn’t anything unusual, but for so many of them to be happening, that is odd. As I said, I really believe it has something to do with the tilt of the earth at certain times. If scientists were to read that, they’d probably have me committed to a loony bin. But that’s my idea, and I’m sticking to it.

Peace,

Muff

  1. Hi Muff - I enjoy exploring dream, their meanings and so forth. I,like you, can go bck to a dream - and I often do. And I never took notice until I read your words that I too am NOT disabled in my dreams. Amazing...

    1. Many people keep journals of their dreams, and I'm thinking about doing it, too.

  2. The weather plays a big part in my disability and MS symptoms. It's the barometric fluctuations actually. I kissed the ground yesterday out in the snow...
I rarely remember my dreams, but I often dream about people that have passed away.

    1. I'm so sorry you fell in the snow.. That's one reason why I make myself a shut-in.

  3. Dreams are, among other things, mental housecleaning. Brain spends all of its time doing lots of weird stuff, and given our "accessorized" nervous systems, it's weirder than usual. I went through a period of that (as well as a "hitting the floor" period), but as all things, those change.

    1. Yep, our abilities keep changing, or we adapt to their needs -- a vicious cycle. My brain must be a mess with all the 'housecleaning' it encounters!!

  4. Your dreams in detail and recall are extraordinary. In my dreams, I am never disabled, which is reassuring in that some part of me can still see that as normal. As for significance of dreams in general and in particular, I don't think science is anywhere close to figuring out the who, what, where, and why, though dreams (while sleeping) possibly encompass a significant portion of our lives. They potentially address a hugely important existential question because they raise the issue of the nature of consciousness.

    1. Oh, I definitely believe that our innermost being 'knows' that the disability is an abomination, and it keeps reminding us what 'normal' really is. I love reading and discovering new things about dreams.

  5. That is so cool to remember and in color! Since my hubby passed three months ago I have not had one dream. So strange.

    1. I was the opposite -- my mom died three months ago, and I dream about her all the time!

  6. I don't dream like that. I dream a lot about my childhood and the pain and absuse I suffered. I do wish we could control our dreams, my dreams are my demons!!

I seem to always have trouble at the change of seasons. I have been released from the hospital, four times in May, the day before Mother's Day, it's always a bad holiday for me!!

    1. Yours are more nightmares than dreams. I'm sorry you went through such horrors as a child. But think about how happy you are now!
For me, the good times are in the spring, and my bad times are in the winter. I guess my theory doesn't hold true for all people.

  7. WE have both been dreaming more than usual lately. Since it is both of us...maybe it is related..Vitamin D maybe I added that to our vitamins. I am just happy to have crazy dreams and not nightmares.
I think the whole world is nuts after that Japanese Earthquake that changed the axis of the earth ...but you know me I am a bit crazy in real life too:)

    1. Well, I've always taken Vitamin D, so it can't be that for me! Aren't we all a bit crazy??
