Winds of Change

After the terrible heat we had last week, the air blew in some cooler temps beginning last Friday. What a pleasure that was. It continued through the weekend, and today is actually chilly. I’m loving every minute of it. It’s so nice to shut down the a/c and open doors and windows. It won’t last, though. We’ll be back in the upper 80s later this week.

The rain last Thursday also brought welcome relief. We got over four inches, and by today, the lawns are green again. Some late-blooming flowers have some new buds, too. The leaves on our two Japanese Maples had been turning orange, due the month of dry weather. So hopefully the color change will stop now and wait until October. I like to have my seasons in proper positions.

This is the point where I pack away all my summer decorations and get out my fall things. So, this week, my husband will help by carting up all the bins, and I’ll arrange my flowers, wreaths, pumpkins, and knick-knacks. I’ll probably start packing bins for my daughter since I won’t have space for all of it. My little guys love the fall décor, so they’ll be happy if their mommy carries on the tradition.

We’re getting closer and closer to pulling up stakes here and moving ahead. My daughter and SIL made offers on two houses this weekend, and if they’re accepted, the move will happen quickly. Of course, we won’t have to move when they do, but I don’t want to linger either. These are the two they’re trying to get.

I’m still making lists of all our furniture and I need to decide what to take. The only thing I want to buy is a sleep sofa for guests if they want to over. These new places are two hours from here, so if my friends visit, I’d want them to stay. Much of what I need to gift, donate, or sell is chests of drawers – how did I ever get so many? Then there are beds, upholstered chairs, and a ton of tables.

This move dominates my thinking, but I also want to get out enjoy this nice crisp weather again.

Peace,
Muff

  1. Hi Muff - our weather patterns are identical. I am loving the cool dry crisp feel of today. The much needed rain cleared the air. The houses are beautiful. Moving is overwhelming as I recall ours almost three years ago. And now we may have to move again but at least all the downsizing is done. Sigh......Enjoy the cool weather.

    1. I remember your having to do all the downsizing. I have plenty of help, but I'm still dreading it. ...and we've already begun -- my boys are removing some pieces tomorrow.

  2. Those are amazing houses they look large enough for you all! I hope it all work out for you! Sometimes we have too much "stuff" and don't realize it until we have to move:)

    1. While the houses look big, they're actually smaller than the one they live in now. I've known for a while that I had accumulated too much, but now I have to actually do something about it.

  4. Our weather patterns are similar. I too am enjoying a cool day. Sitting out in the yard. watching birds and squirrels. By Wednesday it will be the 90's here.

Both houses are lovely! Gorgeous wooded lots too!

    1. Today starts the warm-up, but the humidity will be very low. The one house backs up to the woods, and they'll own part of it. Good viewing!

  5. I, too, have too much stuff, and I live in a small house. Those houses are beautiful, but I don't see a level entry. How will you get in or out? Elevator perhaps?

Oh, our Summer was warmer than usual with more than 50 days above 80 degrees, but we have had a couple of days with light consistent rain, and starting day after tomorrow rain is in the forecast for all of the next week (with lower temps as well.

    1. Pssst... your name is appearing again. You may want to check it out.

On both houses, there are ground level entries in back and side. They are thinking elevator, too, for inside one of them.
I know the PNW got awful heat this summer, but when my boys hiked Rainier, they needed jackets in July!
