Colors

My little guys are really getting into colors. They love coloring, painting, and using colored pencils. The younger one even likes to color with his stamp pads. They miss their mark often, and their little white table is now colored! I use colors as a little teaching tool with them. I ask what color something is and have them respond. Or I ask them to show me something that’s a certain color. Now, the older one is moving beyond the basic color wheel, and I teach him more subtle shades – aqua, peach, tan, etc. He’s really into the naming game and learning new shades. I also asked them what their favorite colors were, and the older one decided that his were blue and brown, while the younger one decided he liked orange and purple. They in turn asked me my favorite color, and I told them it was navy blue. They laughed, but I don’t know why. It got me thinking about the colors and how I like or dislike each.

Red has never been a favorite, but I wear it a lot. It’s bold and I think it might energize my mood. Red rose bushes outnumber the pink and white in the garden, and my geraniums are a brilliant red. So, I must have a secret liking for the color, even though I never say so.  Yellow is all right with me, but I prefer it as a side color – yellow with blue or yellow with brown. Again, I’ve had several yellow dresses, and even now, I wear yellow shirts and a yellow linen blazer. Still, it’s not something I’d claim as a favorite.

Green is another color that I have in various shades, but it’s not a go-to at all. I have two grass green jackets that I pair with navy, and my shirts range from Kelly green to sage. I love that our grass is super green, and I can’t go for long without yummy green veggies. Now, orange is probably my least favorite. I like autumn’s orange leaves and pumpkins, but as for wearing it, I usually don’t. It’s the MS color, but I disliked it long before that. It’s funny, though, because I do like orange shades. I’ll wear a light tangerine or peach, and I have several items of clothing in those shades.

I used to not like purple, but then I developed a fondness for it in all shades. I had winter outfits in deep royal purple and warm-weather togs in pale lilac. It proved to me that our tastes evolve over time. Browns and blacks are strictly add-on colors, and I rarely wear them alone.

Then there’s the blue family – I love them all, but I’m partial to navy. My bridesmaids wore navy, and I loved it. In my closet, it’s the predominant color. I remember my daughter accompanying me on a shopping trip once, just to make sure I didn’t buy another navy outfit! I guess I’m predictable! I’m even wearing navy as I write this!

I’m so thankful that I have good color vision. I can’t imagine living without color in my life. So, what’s your favorite color?

Peace,

Muff

  1. I wear lots of navy blue as well, seems less harsh than black with my coloring. I like bright, clear shades of color and try to avoid pastels.

  3. I have never understood why the MS color is orange, which I too dislike. As for my favorite colors, I notice that I black and white quite frequently, a tribute to my winter palette and my now grey hair. But, I never set out for my predominant colors to be that way. I just sort of happened.

    1. I do like black and white -- and I recently got an outfit that was all black and white. I do try to wear colors, though. They brighten my mood.

  5. I'm not a fan of orange. My bridesmaid's dresses were navy too!

I wear all colours, but prefer black, blues and greens.

    1. Aqua was always my mom's favorite color, although she rarely wore it. Now I find myself developing a fondness for it, too. Orange? Ewww!! LOL
