Another week gone, and I just have a few things swarming in the noggin!
The THING Is Gone! I probably mentioned this before, but we don’t have central air conditioning here. When we looked into it many years ago, we learned that much of our house would be pulled apart to place ducts and vents. I love the antiqueness of this home, and I didn’t want to part with it. So, we have window air conditioners all over. They’re powerful, and they keep the place ultra comfortable. Unfortunately, the one in the master bedroom broke several weeks ago, and my husband just stuck in one of our extras. It wasn’t that strong, so he decided to get a new one. Thinking he had discovered gold, he came home with a 10,000 BTU portable unit. He and my son set it up on Wednesday, and my days in hell began. First of all, it was huge – think R2D2 in the middle of the floor. Then there was a long vent [think dryer tubing] that went out the window – horrible. But the biggie was the noise. It never stopped running. All night it sounding like a train was roaring through the room. The final straw, though, was when we found it leaking – all over my carpet! At that point, I said away with it. Back it went this morning, and now we have a regular window unit. Never again!
Ants: We usually only get a few each year, but this summer, the ants have been enjoying various areas of our house. You know how I hate bugs, and this was just unacceptable. The funny thing is they never appeared in the kitchen. I saw a few in my bathroom, a couple in the powder room, and some in the family room. There weren’t piles of them – only two or three, and they were very small. But they had to go. I looked up various natural solutions, but my husband wanted a full-on siege! He purchased little ant traps and hid them in various areas. So far they seem to be working, but even one ant is too many. So, I’m keeping my eyes open. The mosquitoes, on the other hand, have been non-existent. I hope it stays that way. Then there are those spawns of Satan – flies! I found another natural mixture that’s supposed to work, and so far, it has. You mix Pine-Sol and water and spray it around entryways. If it continues to do the trick, we have a winner.
Weather: Each week, we seem to be having some strange weather conditions forecasted. We know there are areas badly affected by the storms, but we’ve had very few problems. Last night, we saw the Emergency Alert appear on the TV, and it wasn’t only a test! A tornado warning was issued for just north of here. It was cancelled within an hour, though. We just got a small storm with a few rumbles and a brief drenching. Today, the skies are blue, there’s no humidity, and the temps are lower. If only it would last!
Books: The library hasn’t gotten any of the books I ordered, and I’m peeved. There are new girls working there, and I’m not sure they even put me on the county delivery list! I think I may call my regular gal and see if she can get to the bottom of it. A two-week wait is too much! I have twenty books on my list, and I’m dying to get started. I’m a caged lion when I have no books to read! So, no critiques for now.
That’s about it for now. Enjoy your weekend!
