The Pulitzer and Other Randomness

Did you hear about the mad sale at Target over the Lilly Pulitzer line? It was funny – when I first saw the ad, the music and visuals told me it was Target, but when I looked at the clothes, I remarked, “They look so much like Pulitzers.” Then when it was revealed that it was Lilly, and they were at Target, I was quite surprised. I think of Target as having great buys on household items, but I never bought clothes there. So seeing a high-quality brand there really shook me up. Then I saw on the news the long lines that were there and the mad rush to purchase it all. I was glad I stayed away. Then, the stores were completely sold out, their website crashed, and the items went up on EBay for higher prices! What a marketing coup! I did compare the prices, and what a bargain. A dress that would sell for 148.00 was only 38.00 at Target. It looks as if there are more online now. I’m tempted. Let me tell you why.

Back in the ‘60s, this line was all the rage with my mother’s generation. In the summer, the women all looked the same, with their flowered shifts or blouses. I always associated the look with Florida style – those vibrant floral prints and bright, embroidered solids screamed sunny summer to me. In my mind’s eye, I can still see those outfits (with the obligatory matchy-matchy Bermuda bag, of course.) When I was older, I would gladly have worn such outfits; however, they were no longer “in,” and other styles took over. Well, what goes around comes around in the fashion world, and here we are again with that ‘60s look. I definitely like it.

Do you remember all my griping about shoes? Well, I finally ordered a pair online and they should be here by the weekend. Talking about style, these definitely are not chic. However, I think they’re what I need. Thanks to Olga, I checked out a website called Arcopedico. The shoes are really orthopedic styles, but I found some that were less clunky and should fit my swollen feet. The company has a good return policy, and they weren’t expensive – just 60.00. I’ll try them out indoors, and if they work, I’ll keep them. Otherwise, I’ll send them back and continue my search. The main page of the site also showed floral flats, but I couldn’t find them in the pages that followed. Those I could have used for dress attire. Anyway, I’ll report back on the findings.

Also, Debbie suggested flip-flops (thongs) for warm weather, and I want to explore that area as well. I’d have to sure that they go far enough up my instep to keep them from sliding off. I no longer have the ability to curl my toes when walking in order to keep the shoes on my feet. There are so many styles of flip-flops that I’d be able to find the ones I’d need. I’ll let you know how that goes, too.

Since I’m in a fashion mode, I’ve been checking out some other little-known sites. I receive emails from Zulilly because I ordered some children’s things from them for the grands. Now, I’ve been looking at some of the women’s apparel, and I’ve found some unique styles. Since I never go anywhere anymore, I just need casual items with a few dressier ones for church. I’m planning to order some tunics – plain and fancy for my going out days. I think I’ll look all right without roasting in the hot weather.

Isn’t it funny that even though I no longer work, no longer go places, and no longer stand or walk that much, I’m still into fashion? Vanity thy name is Muff! Ugh!

Peace,

Fashionista Muff

    1. You're right that we should always have that desire to be our best -- looking and doing! It just surprises me, though, that I put so much emphasis on it!

  2. Ah, I remember my dress-up days quite fondly. I have some lovely Indian formal wear, A few tuxedos including tails, some great Renaissance-Faire-wear including a lovely Romeo jacket (as they call them), a couple of kilts, one formal, one Utilikilt--you can't beat machine-washable and with pockets, pockets even! But I have lost SO much weight, so much stuff is really best for non-wheelchair-bound wearers, and I don't even enjoy leaving the house much nowadays. But I get my "clothes rush" from my wife Karen, who looks good in EVERYTHING and has recently discovered the most amazing shoes, which may have even been GIFTED to her. It just keeps getting better!

    1. I laughed when you wrote about the kilts. Coming from an Irish and Scottish background, we always had kilts -- I still have one of mine! I'm so sorry that you continue to lose weight -- isn't there anything that would help you put the pounds back on? I love shoes -- so I'm quite jealous when I see nice ones and know I can't wear them!

  3. Gosh, the Olga-referenced shoes look comfy. As for flips flops, hmm, not enough support. And Lily Pulitzer? Yep, I remember those. I guess she's definitely gone down market. I do think they're lovely.

    1. Yes, comfy -- no to style! With the flip-flops, I know they'd be used for my sedentary lifestyle and not much for walking.
