Friday Fragments

Here’s the sampling for this week:

AWOL, Again: I stayed off the blog yesterday because I wasn’t feeling well. I think that the neurological fumbling last Sunday was a foreshadowing of my getting ill. On Tuesday, I had a scratchy throat, but I didn’t think much of it until evening when I felt some cold-ish symptoms. By Wednesday morning, I had laryngitis, but I didn’t feel sick – just weak.  I should just have stayed home, but I went to the salon instead. Before we left, my husband informed me that he twisted his back. Great! He had the toe thing last week, and now a bad back. The two of us were falling apart! I had difficulty walking at the salon, as usual, but my stylist works so well with me. Anything she can do to help me move, she does. She also jokes about it, which makes me feel less of a burden. My boys weren’t coming for dinner, so I had the afternoon and evening to rest, but I felt lousy. I still had the cough and no voice yesterday, but I just took it easy. Last night I started with the sneezing. Oh, yuck – not now!! My husband’s back was still killing him, so the doctor renewed the medication he took the last time. I need to get some of my cooking finished today, so I just have to do it in little segments. The original number of attendees has diminished from twelve to eight – a relief.

Menu: I’m serving a ham for Easter, and I make a special glaze for it – apricot preserves, mustard, ground cloves, and bourbon. Today I’ll make my pineapple stuffing, the mac and cheese, and deviled eggs. The vegetables will be asparagus (I think I may tie them in bundles with puff pastry,) string beans (probably in a casserole, again,) peas with onions, and glazed carrots. They all have to wait until Sunday. I wanted to do some baking earlier in the week, but that didn’t happen. I may have to purchase a dessert, but I’ll see how much energy I have, and if I’m all right, I’ll make a lemon cream pie – very, very easy.

Review: Did anyone watch The Dove Keepers? It was a TV show airing over two nights. I saw it, but I was very disappointed. The story of the siege of Masada is so interesting, but this show spent most of its time on illicit sex, unwanted pregnancies, and extreme violence. I liked Cote de Pablo when she was on NCIS, but her lead role on this show was bad. I give it a thumbs down!

Baskets: I haven’t made Easter baskets in a few years, but this year, I’m doing two for the little guys. I found these cute bunny baskets that could be personalized, so I ordered two.

Then I ordered two books with the boys’ names in the story – a bunny and a puppy story. Then I’ll add two little chocolate bunnies, some eggs, kisses, and jelly beans. On the tables, I’ll just have bowls and vases of Jelly Belly beans in spring colors.

Weather: We’re still not fully into spring. Some days have been warm, but then the temps drop right back down to chilly. Easter is expected to be a little cool, but it should stay dry. I didn’t bother getting anything new to wear for Easter, so I’ll probably just wear slacks and a blazer. Gone are the days when I had to have new dresses or suits – ease and comfort are the keywords now.

That’s all for this edition. I wish you a happy and peaceful Easter!

Peace,

Muff

  2. As I write this...it's snowing! Tomorrow morning minus 10.

Sorry to hear you and your hubby are not well. Seems to be the season for illness. I came down with a weird rib cartilage infection two weeks ago, and to add insult to injury, slipped and fell in the yard, cracking two ribs last week!

Love the Easter baskets you got for the boys! I got hubbers to go to the dollar store to get Beep's basket and the Easter grass and then we filled it with Purdy's chocolates!

A yummy dinner you have planned. I was hoping to cook, but may have to resort to Chinese food take out...LOL.

    Have a great Easter Muff!

  4. Ah, I remember my days in Connecticut, singing to myself "I'm dreaming of a white Easter!" Not as snow friendly as Christmas, definitely.

    1. We ended up with warmish weather, though a bit windy. Believe it or not, this past Christmas was 65 degrees! Then we have a cool spring!
