Rainy Days and Mondays -- Mental Rambling

We got a few flurries late last night, and then it became rain. So, it’s a little dreary around here right now. My husband made an emergency appointment with his doctor because his shoulder began hurting again over the weekend. His back and legs turned out to be nothing more than oncoming arthritis, and I’m hoping this situation will be the same. The last time he had trouble with his neck and shoulder, we traced its origin back to him holding my hand as I walked – even with my cane! I switched to a walker, and his pain went away. This time, however, I did not tug or pull on him, and I don’t think I had anything to do with it. It could be that he twisted it, or got bursitis, or he’s just getting old age aches and pains. Whatever… He’ll probably need x-rays again, and our insurance cost is $50 for any specialist or testing (except blood work, which is free.)

I watched the Super Bowl commercials, and I wasn’t impressed. I liked the little puppy on the Budweiser ad, but not much else. The half-time show was all right, but very short. Other than that, I did my NYT crossword and other puzzles, and then I read. Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands is a good one, and I still have several books waiting for me. When my hands were good, I would have been stitching or drawing, but that’s long gone. I try not to think about that loss, but it creeps in on gray days such as today.

Years (maybe 12) ago, I started making faux stained glass. It’s pretty easy: get a large picture frame with glass (I like 24 inches and larger) and remove the glass. Then, find a design you like on your computer, print it, and enlarge it. My computer doesn’t print or copy large items, so I have to do this step by dividing the design into quarters. After you print each quarter, tape it all together. Lay the design under the glass and secure it with tape or bull-nose clips. In the craft store buy packages of faux glass strips. These are rubber strips with glue on the back. They come in straight lines, circles, and curves. Peel and press the strips onto the glass over the design lines. When you finish, it looks like clear leaded glass. At that point, you can leave it as is, frost it with a craft solution, or paint it with glass paint. Then put it back into the frame and display it a window. I have an unfinished one upstairs that I’d like to put in our hallway window. I’m wondering if I can still do it with one hand.

Well, I think I’ll finish this and go read a book. As I said – rainy days and Mondays…
