Christmas

'Tis the Season

All around I see that Christmas is coming quickly. I’m not decorating, but I’m doing other things. With my husband’s help, the cookies are getting done – five kinds, so far. Today, I’m making a salted caramel one – new for me. I’ll still make a variety, but not as many in each kind. My gift list of cookie baskets has diminished, so I don’t need as many. When I finish, I’ll try to remember to post a photo.

No decorations, but I still need to do a card. I have an idea in mind, but I need to execute it! Otherwise, I’ll just do a computer one. In the cards, I’ll add a note with our new address. Many people don’t even know we’re moving! I should do a little newsletter, also, to let our friends from afar know about my husband’s illnesses. Time will determine that move.

No decorations, but we still do gifts. It’s mostly for the little ones, but we do a family Pollyanna, too. Then, I need something for my son’s girlfriend. She doesn’t want to be in the Pollyanna, so it means a separate gift, and she doesn’t like gift cards. I’ll probably get her some art supplies. I have a list for the boys – now, I just have to get it all!

No decorations, but we still visit. We’ll be seeing my husband’s family on the 21st, and I’m looking forward to it. We’re also going to get our first look at the new house. We’ll have my sister here over Christmas, and my nephew will come for Christmas day. I’m hoping to have another family dinner, too.

So, the season is definitely here, but I try to keep my inner self in a peaceful mode, remembering why we celebrate. My Advent meditations help me with that. I also sneak in a prayer that my feet and legs will heal. I hope it’s something simple.

Hope you’re starting to get in the mood, too.

Peace,
Muff

  1. I am not decorating until I get to Florida, but i do have the gift situation mostly under control. I even have some cookies ready. I have made a real effort to simplify and I am enjoying it!

    1. Christmas in Florida must be a little different than up north! Glad that simplifying has worked for you.

  2. I only buy gifts for the little ones and my two sons, even chuck and I don't exchange gifts. There is not a thing I need and the stores are too crowded. It will be difficult to not decorate but you are much better off with the move coming up. Next year will be super special and you will enjoy the decorations so much more!!

    1. My husband and I don't exchange either. We really don't want or need anything. I'm hoping my daughter will be able to use some of my decorations in the house.

  3. My sister put my tree up, simple tree. It is nice of you to send out cards, I gave that up a few years ago, pure laziness! I try hard to not get stressed out with all the gifts etc and remember the reason for the season. Too commercial now

    1. I like sending cards because it's a way to stay in touch. Many of our family/friends live far away.

  5. I don't decorate any more... my wife will does. I used to write music for Christmas... not so much any more. Oh well.

Advent is, liturgically, a penitential time. A great time to cut out the cruft! (And, when possible, to make cookies.)

    1. I'll bet your Christmas music is beautiful!
I think of Advent as less penitential (as Lent,) and more preparatory.
