Musical Thoughts: Part 1 of 2

I’ve often mentioned how much I love music, and I continue to be amazed at how it affects my overall well being. When I went out every day, we always played music in the car, and I became accustomed to it. At times, I would have preferred to listen to the shows on NPR, but I know they would have distracted my husband, so I went with the music.

I also like music when we eat dinner, but that doesn’t always happen. My go-to source has been Music Choice on the TV, which has several dozen channels. I stay away from the hip-hop/rap ones, but for quiet listening I prefer the Easy Listening channel. (Think ‘elevator music!!!’) It’s all instrumental, and it’s just there in the background, so I’m not distracted. I even play it here on the computer, and it’s on right now.

Because I listened to my parents’ music when I was young, I can recognize the songs being played, but there’s also the title and artist on the screen if I don’t. There’s also more modern music that has been adopted and adapted by different orchestras. It’s so relaxing that I play it on the nights I’ve stayed downstairs to sleep. It’s just there in the background, and I become lulled by the serenity of it.

The problem arises when I recognize an old song and think about the lyrics or when I first listened to it. My mind really wanders then, but not always in a quiet way. Thus was the case on Monday night when I slept in the den. I was awake and my mind zeroed in on so many memories – good and bad. I ended up turning it off so I could sleep, but that didn’t happen, either.

The reason I put part one in the title is because that music fits into Throwback Thursday. So, tomorrow, I’ll post about some memories. I’m still taking it easy, so this will be another short post. Big Boys aren’t coming tonight, but Little Boys will be here tomorrow.

Peace,

Muff

    1. I like Bruno Mars, too! Right now, with modern music, I don't have a favorite, but I do like Maroon 5, Fun, Usher, Train...and on and on! But, I also like a lot of really old music, too.

  2. I like music but I cannot always listen while doing something else...definitely not much of a multi-tasker.

    1. I know many people who say the same thing. I just think I have a very compartmentalized brain, and it keeps everything separated -- even if I'm doing several things at the same time.
