Bad Day Into Night

These muscle strains are really driving me crazy. I kept thinking that they were a result of my exertion when I walk; however, I found the real culprit – my sleep! It’s difficult for me to reposition myself in bed, and I have to devise ways to do it. The usual method is to lie on my back, ‘tent’ my knees and scooch over. Then I can flip over onto my other side. Unfortunately, that ‘scooching’ involves using my side muscles and the ones beneath my rib cage. If I do it too quickly, the muscles get pulled. That’s why it kept happening over and over with different muscle groups. The latest is on my right side at my waist.

That muscle is tricky because I use it a lot, and it screams every time I turn wrong or pull myself up from a sitting position. It just wasn’t healing as the other ones did. It’s been several days, and it’s still there. On Saturday night, my husband tried to help me, but I decided to just get the wheelchair and sit in it for the rest of the night, dozing off and on. Sunday night’s movements left me sore all day yesterday.  If I tried to walk, it hurt; if I sat wrong, there was pain; and standing up nearly killed me.

Knowing that I’d just keep aggravating the muscle, I opted to sleep downstairs last night. That meant sitting up on the loveseat in the family room with pillows all around me. It wasn’t ideal, and I got little sleep, but by this morning, I felt so much better. I only feel it if I move too quickly or try to use that side too much. I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat, and I’ll definitely need a long nap. But without the pain, I feel almost normal.

This is short because I’m so sleepy. If everything continues to improve, I’ll write more tomorrow.

Peace,

Muff

  2. Sleep is supposed to restore, not cause harm. That kind of stinks. Hope you feel better and can find a way to get better rest.

    1. The better way is for me to think before I move. So far, it's working.
