Advertising/Commercials

I know that some of you DVR TV shows, then run through the ads. If I’ve recorded a show, I do the same. I still watch regular TV, though, and then I have to watch the commercials, too. They’re not all bad, either.

I’m loving and laughing at the VW ads with the old ladies. I’ve known many elderly women who acted and spoke just like these ladies. So far, I’ve only seen three ads with them, but I laugh every time they’re on. They seem so real, which means the actresses are very good!

Then there are the State Farm commercials. I had already liked the ‘Jake’ one and the Conehead’s rendition, but they have more. There’s the whole set of people saying the tag line, “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there,’ and the agent magically appears. Then a new one has a ne’er-do-well son leaving his roommates and getting his own pad, but leaving his snake with his parents. There’s the never say never one with the guy saying he’ll never get married, have a kid, move to burbs, buy a mini van, and ending up with all of it. But I think my favorite one is the wedding with the blended family. “Your dad just kissed my mom.” There are more, and each one has such great acting that I often forget who the advertiser is!

Target has always been a favorite of mine, and I’m glad to see the creative director has returned. They have snappy music, and you end up singing along. Several years they had one with swirls being drawn and changing colors. Now they have a return of kaleidoscope pictures for the cell phone accessories. (I wonder why I like that one so much?!?)

The ads with the retrievers driving a Subaru are another favorite. They make the dogs look as if they’re people. Even the puppies in the car seat are adorable. Other Subaru ads are good, too. The purpose is to equate Subaru with love.

Of course, there are many commercials that get on my nerves, but I’ll leave them for another post.  Whenever I see an ad that appeals to me, I try to remember the sponsor. I shouldn’t have to, though. If a commercial sets out to attract viewers, the company should be firmly ingrained in me after watching it. So, are there any ads that YOU like? Let me know!

Peace,
Muff

    1. It's definitely NOT you! These gals are in their upper seventies at least. I don't enjoy many commercials, but these are great.

  2. I don't like the Jake State Farm ones but the one of the little girl and her new brother at the wedding is a keeper. I also like the young fellow that never wants a baby, car etc...
Remember that old commercial for Ice Cream where all the elderly people do the conga line dance...the thought
of that one cracks me up as did the M&M..."Oh no they are going to eat Eddie" commercial. I like to fast forward through most of the commercials:)

  3. I'm not much of a tv watcher. The 2 shows do I watch are on PBS, thus no commercials.
