A Brief Cool Down

Today is supposed to be a lot cooler! This is good since I had another energy drain on the steps last night. It wasn’t as bad as Monday night because I sat in AC all day, but it was still a struggle when my legs just stop working. It’s scary because I could really fall on the stairs and get hurt badly. I’m hoping things will be better tonight.

My boys are coming, and I already have the slow cooker filled with my homemade pasta sauce. Our neighbors gave us some grilled sausages, and I’ll throw them in the pot with some homemade meatballs. I’m making a veggie casserole of zucchini, yellow squash, plum tomatoes, garlic, and mozzarella cheese. With some nice Italian bread, the meal should be yummy. I’ll do meringue shells filled with fruit for dessert. I think the boys will be pleased. There should be enough for them to take home doggie bags, too.

With the gray skies and cooler weather, I get tempted to do more, but I think I need to slow things down a bit. Since dinner will be my main focus, I’ll let other chores slide for the day. Tomorrow is another day, and I can do things then. If I could just follow that practice, I know I’d be better off. Unfortunately, I always forget and I start projects that take time, and then I’m worn out. My husband is a willing helper, but I don’t always ask him to help if I think I can do it myself. Right now, the silver in the dining room needs polishing – it’s starting to look like bronze! It can be a sit-down project, but I keep putting it off. The same goes for redoing my kitchen counters – a short task, but I just say “mañana!” I also want to get some books packed up for my church – they’ve started a new library, and I have much to contribute. But with all these chores, I just don’t know when to stop, and I suffer the consequences.

So, at least for today, I’m going to enjoy the brief cool down, and I’ll be doing nothing but a little cooking. I hope it makes me feel better tonight. Those stairs are getting longer every night!

Peace,

Muff

  1. Polishing the silver? You really reside :) in an alternate universe. My silver--jewelry, silverware, even family heritage items--lie in a drawer. And, that unfortunately is where they will remain. I salute you for your willingness to keep on with the polishing practice. It says a lot about your determination not to let MS rule.

    1. I know -- it sounds like the downstairs of Downton! The silver was inherited from my grandmother, and I try to display family "hand-me-downs." I'm far from the people who live in such circumstances! I also found a quick polishing product, so the work is fairly simple. Sorry if I sounded as if I were putting on airs!

    1. We did, too! Today is starting out well, but I know the heat is coming back and I'm dreading it.

  3. You can only do what you can do. You are wise o realize that those jobs will still be there tomorrow (sometimes even when you actually do them today). I am starting to long for a simpler life now that I am home...and immediately yearning to head back to my Florida retreat.

    1. That's a version of my new motto. "Never do today what you can postpone until tomorrow!" Sorry you're missing FL -- maybe next year, you can stay for a loner time?
