Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Let the good times roll!! Happy Mardi Gras!

My good times were really rolling for the past few days. I love spending time with my little guy. The clan arrived by lunchtime last Friday, and I made their favorite lunch – Nanny’s Grilled Cheese. It’s just the normal grilled cheese sammie, but they love it when I make it low and slow so the cheese is melted and gooey. I also give them a few potato chips and cookie dessert, which is another treat. Once the mommy and little bro left, I began my indoctrination into his latest fad – Star Wars. His daddy is a big fan and the acorn theory is quite evident here. The little guy has an encyclopedia of Star Wars characters, which he tried to thrust upon me, along with the dumbest book I’ve seen. It’s called Darth Vader and Son, showing animated figures of DV with a Luke aged five or so. Dumb because DV didn’t know his son when he was growing up. It’s even dumber because there’s no continuity in the book. But the little guy loved it, so I endured. We also spent hours on the computer looking at Star War scenes from the films, especially light saber duels. Fortunately, I was able to entice him with other projects.

We made little pretzel treats that I saw on Pinterest, and we made pizza together. He did some watercolor painting, some button projects, and much cutting with various scissors. His piece de rĂ©sistance was a huge wreath that he helped me assemble for spring. As long as he got to wield the mini glue gun, he was content. Poppy helped him to build countless Lego, bristle block, and wooden block structures, so I was happy to see he wasn’t entirely addicted to Star Wars. We also re-watched Ratatouille, Aladdin, and The Incredibles as pre-bedtime fare. He slept for ten hours every night, and although he’s giving up those precious naps, he seems to be fine.

One glitch was that I took a serious fall after he went to bed on Friday night. I stood up to get my walker and just lost my balance and went down – hard! I also hit my arm on some toys that I hadn’t picked up, so that made one nasty gash and bruise. My husband wanted to lift me, but it hurts too much. So after a long time of struggling to get up, I finally let him move the ottoman and he could lift me onto it. After that, I was able to get up. I will admit, though, that I shed many ‘poor me’ tears, and I was getting very depressed about not being able to get up. These falls have happened a lot in the last few months, and they’re really annoying.

We’ll be having both little ones again this Friday while the parental unit goes to a nearby business dinner. They’ll all stay over and then take off. Then the following week will be the older one’s fifth birthday – where did that time go?? Of course he wants a Star War theme, and we’ll get him SW figures as his gift. This is a whole new chapter for us.

So, enjoy your bon temps today, and I’ll reminisce about mine!

Peace,

Muff

  1. It sounds like a wonderful time! He's sort of grown up for us as well via the medium of your blog. Five years does seem surprising. Sorry about the fall. I hope you don't keep falling or, at least, that you don't get hurt.
