I laugh at that title because some of my un-decorating is connected to my two mantles. In the family room, I keep my Lenox vases and bowls, but add a huge wreath over them and some pine boughs among them. In the living room, I remove everything, add evergreen boughs with red flowers, and another lighted wreath above. They’ll soon be gone, and I’ll be back to the regular ‘stuff.’
My husband got right to work this morning, and he’s doing everything in the family room, which includes taking down the main tree. I wanted to get a picture of something cute, but he beat me to it. I put my little churches and small crèches on the low bookshelf this year. Well, my littler guy decided to add his own signature to the display – he put his little Lego dogs next to the large church. I left them there because I thought it showed his creativity!
When we visited my daughter last Friday, I was reminded how many decorations I used to have. I gave many of them to her, and it was neat seeing them in a new setting. My family room used to be all snowmen – hundreds of them. They adorned the mantle, stood on all the bookcases, hung on the walls, and sat along the half wall by the back entry. Now, my daughter doesn’t have them confined to one room, but I see them all around. It was the same with my Santas and Father Christmas – they all lived in my dining room. The small tree I used there was covered with Santas. Now, in their new home, they’re spread throughout the house. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she also has more than one tree. They put up two in their huge family room in front of the high windows. There’s the big one in the living room, two small ones in the foyer by the door, a small one in the dining room, and two on the front porch. I’m down to just three, now.
I will post what pictures I have, even though I didn’t shoot all areas. I don’t decorate as much for other seasons or holidays, but I do enjoy changing things a bit. My mom used to satisfy her need for change by moving furniture around. It drove my dad nuts, but he went along with it. Rarely do I move the furniture around, but I may do it this year.
I guess I should go and help my husband now. Or not…
