The F Word

Tsk! Tsk! Naughty, naughty!  Now, let’s clean up our minds and move to this F word – Favorites!  We all have them, whether we admit to it or not. Here are mine:

Favorite day of the week: Saturday. That has stayed the same for as long as I can remember. When I worked, it was the start of a weekend (As Violet, Dowager Lady Grantham on Downton Abbey [Maggie Smith] said – What IS a Week-END?) I loved Saturdays, no matter how many house chores I had or errands I needed to run. Now that I basically do nothing at ALL times, I just love to watch my DVRed shows and have a relaxing day.

Favorite color: Blue. And within that enormous color, I like Navy Blue the best. Seems like an odd hue, but for some reason, I have always gravitated toward it. No peacock, aqua, or baby blues – just go deep and find navy. When I was little, I always chose navy as a dress color, and I can still recall those little frocks. Would you believe that my bridesmaids wore navy blue also? Today I’m wearing navy top and bottom, with a little white. My closet is overrun with navy, and I have many shoes in that color. So I really do know that it’s my favorite color.

Favorite food: Seafood. Again as a subtopic, I love crab. Given a choice between a steak and crab, I’d always opt for the latter! I know that buying the best kind – jumbo lump – is pricey, but I don’t eat it every day, or even every week or month. I save it for special occasions. Done right, crab cakes can send me into a euphoric state – lumps kept whole, a few spices, and very little filler. I could also just sit and eat the lumps right from the can! I love crab in a sautéed dish, in a salad, and as a stuffing. I’m salivating just thinking about it.

Favorite dessert: my own creation of a multi-layered creamy concoction. It’s made in an oblong baking dish with a bottom crust of flour, butter, pecans, and a little water. After it’s baked and cooled, you add chocolate mousse on top of the crust, then a layer of sweetened cream cheese, a thin layer of chocolate ganache, then homemade whipped cream. Top it all with chocolate curls and pecan chips. Refrigerate for several hours and eat! Again, I might have this once a year or less, but it’s yummy!

Favorite song: this depends on my mood. After Andy Williams died, I found myself listening to all his songs. I go through Broadway periods where I love songs from musicals. If dancing is in my head (it certainly isn’t in my feet anymore!) I can go with so many dance songs. Ask me at any one time what my favorite song is, and it will always be different.

Favorite TV show: again this is dependent on my mood. I could be in a serious mood and choose DA or the Good Wife, or I could be in a funny mood and say Modern Family.

Favorite book: hands down To Kill a Mockingbird. I can read that over and over and still find new meaning in it. I often used it as a novel study for my students.

Favorite MS symptom: none!

I never had favorites among my three children, although they’ll all disagree! I did have favorite classes and students, though. I tried not to be too obvious, but I did like some better than others.

How about you – what favorites do you have?

Peace,
Muff

I have to agree about Saturdays. Even in retirement it stays a special kind of day. We always fix a nice supper and share a bottle of wine on Saturday nights. And crab would definitely be in the "nice meal" category. We get king crab legs for New Year's Eve. That and melted butter--that is the whole meal. Well, a bottle of champagne...it is a holiday celebration after all.

I absolutely love To Kill a Mockingbird, though I'd be hard put to declare it my Favorite, since there are so many books I like, but it is right there at the top with a few others. As for crab, I have been known to sail down the Chesapeake, eating nothing but crabcakes at every stop from Annapolis to the other end of the Chesapeake. But, I'm rather picky. It's Maryland Crabcakes or nothing!

I removed the comment because the first one was repeated; I don't know why.

Oh favourites! I love Friday, a hangover from my working days I guess. My fave colour is any shade of green, BUT my bridal party wore NAVY BLUE too! Gosh we are twins seperated at birth. I'm allergic to crab, puff up like a balloon. I am not much of a tv watcher, but I like Top Chef. Sweet Pea is my favourite child ;)

Olga, we're not quite as formal...Saturday usually means pizza, hoagies, etc.

Judy, having done so much study in literature, I know there are tons of books more worthy; however, I always remember a phrase or a scene from the book and it makes me so aware of issues.
If you tasted my girlfriend's son's crab cakes, you'd be hooked. And I, too, swore by Maryland's!

Karen, you know, you are the first person to join my navy blue bridesmaids' club! I get a kick out of the Canadian "u" in the word!

Peace,
Muff

I have 2 children, a boy and a girl. I tell each they are my favorite, my favorite son, and my favorite daughter lol.

My favorite color is red.

My favorite drink(s) are diet coke and coffee. I can drink coffee all day. I love a cup or two in the late evening, for some reason it helps relax me.

My music depends on my mood. I'm all over the place with anything from Metallica to Josh Groben.

Thanks for letting me share!

I am embarrassed to admit that I have never read 'To Kill a Mockingbird' but I will make the effort now...Saturday used to be a favorite day but now, since I relax all the time, I get bored too easily on Saturday...things have changed with me...and my favorite color keeps changing too
