Off on another whirl of mind-numbing incidents and
observations!
My Unscheduled Break: Believe it or not, my post for yesterday was in the mental editing process when I realized the grands would be arriving; hence, my hasty departure. I usually have time to write, edit, and publish before they come, but I knew there was an earlier ETA due to work being done in their house¹. I’m certainly not complaining – I love having them around!
¹The Never-Ending House Project: Said work being done there is now the
completion of the third floor into two more rooms and a bath. They plan to use
them as offices, freeing a bedroom on the second floor for the smaller little
guy when he’s ready to leave the nursery. At that point (thinking of the two
offices as bedrooms) there will be seven bedrooms and five baths! Talk about
the McMansion! It is a beautiful home, and they’re happy with it, but they may
be placing themselves out of a resale, should they ever decide to move. The builders
are also working in the “basement” area. Right now, they have one large
finished room which holds the kids’ bigger toys² and sitting area, a “media
room” with recliner, projectors, and video/audio apparatus, a bathroom, and a
warren of unfinished storage rooms (one that has become the pet rabbit’s home.)
Now, they’re closing off the play area with French doors, moving the bunny, and
building a wet bar area for entertaining. The final project is the completion
of the outdoor landscaping and stone work. I’m thinking that when it’s finished, it
should be on HGTV!
²The Toys: It’s like FAO Schwartz in that place. Little guy already had a ton, but now littler guy adds to that! One of the favorites is his collection of tools. Have you seen how realistic these are? He owns a workbench, with hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, saws, and ‘electric’ drills, nailguns, and tablesaws. He can imitate the sound of each and proceeded to give us a demonstration of all the work the builders are doing – each step accompanied by the appropriate sound. Needless to say, my daughter had about enough, so she came early for their visit.
The Creature From the Black Lagoon: My boys came early for dinner yesterday so they could get rid of this ‘thing.’ My husband fogged the two areas, the boys used brooms and sticks to frighten it away (they thought,) and then they went up on the big ladders to place metal flashing around the access areas. I breathed a sigh of relief that it was gone – until this morning. Then I heard the scratching noises again. I think it never left, just hunkered down during the repair work. Now, I’m worried that it will never find its way out and it’ll try to claw through the ceilings. I’m making myself sick with worry. My husband won’t hire a pro – “Too expensive” or try to set traps (humane ones) – “Too many areas for the one trap we own.” As a result, I’m fraught with panic AND we have little guy’s sleepover this weekend.
Weather Worry and Puppy: We
have an additional guest for two weeks – Kasey the Wonder Pup! My son (his owner) is going on a ski vacay. Now, you may have heard that we’re heading into a big nor’easter with snow. We’ll be at the tail end, and we’ll only get a few inches. BUT the mountains will have blizzard-like conditions at the time my son and friends will be traveling there. Just one more thing to add to my bag of worries!
Grammar: No new topics this week, just a little “funny” that I
read.
Peace,
Muff

Sounds like their house will be great when it's done! I think I'd be putting that one humane trap up there! I hope the sleepover goes well!
I stand corrected on several of the pronunciations. Now I have to remember! As for the house with many bedrooms, one solution is to keep filling it with more children. :)
The house does sound like a McMansion. Maybe they'll fill it with more grandbabies for you to love. Those young folks will do just fine, whether you worry or not. After all you did raise them to be self-reliant and independent!!!
Stop with the worries! Que sera sera, and all that. But I would start being a NAG, because you are (al)most always correct. (ahem)
I agree with Karen (and you) and would have that trap set up right away as the only means of egress has been sealed; poor hungry and thirsty critter.
The McMansion sounds lovely, though I wouldn't want to be the one to have to keep it clean. I say fill it with kids and train them to do it.
Skiing in a blizzard sounds like all kinds of uncomfortable to me. Drinking by the fireplace in the ski lodge is more my style. And the drive up and back should be all kinds of fun.
Karen, I'll try nagging again, but for the rest of yesterday, last night, and today, it's been quit.
Judy, I had a couple wrong, too. I like the "more kids" idea -- hope they do also.
Muffy, you're so right -- worrying gets me nowhere!
Webster, see what I told Karen -- all quiet on the upper front! Pssst -- they do have someone to clean (they're doctors and can afford it!) The son made it there before the blizzard, and today looks like perfect skiing weather!
Peace,
Muff
