Friday Fragments

I know it really is a sign of getting older, but these weeks are flying by!

Explanation:  After taking a vacation day on Monday, where did I go yesterday??? I’ve been getting accustomed to writing my posts ahead of time when I can. I had a hairdresser’s appointment on Wednesday, so I wrote on Tuesday. I had planned to do the same on Wednesday for Thursday, but after all the moving around I have to do at the salon, I was too tired. Yesterday morning, I was nearly finished a post for the day when I heard my little guy come running through the house – an hour early. So I put everything on hold, but never had the opportunity to go back. Of course I’m not complaining – I love being with my little guy. So that’s what happened.

An answer: a few weeks ago I mentioned that I would apply for a part-time position at our local school for a tax break. Right after that, I learned that our school is merging with one in the next town, and positions will be filled by those teachers. Oh well…

Hit a nerve? When I wrote my last post about bladder issues, I really had a lot of responses. I’m sad that so many of us suffer, but it was good knowing I’m not alone. The last few days have been brutal for me – over two hours in the salon, then just about making it to the powder room there, plus having the little guy yesterday who follows me everywhere – even to the potty.  I think I’ll have several days of normality now. But who knows?

Planning a party:  I know I’ve mentioned this before, but there’s a lovely little lady (Theresa) at my mother’s home with whom we’ve formed a bond. Her sister is there now for rehab, and her brother-in-law visits every day. So we usually sit with them during our visits. Next week is Theresa’s birthday, and I asked her sister and brother-in-law if we could have a little party for her. They loved the idea, and I got to work. I baked a lemon bundt cake yesterday so the little guy could “help.” I put it in the freezer until Monday when I can add a glaze and some lemon slices. I’ll make some homemade iced tea and buy some party paperware. She loves to smell nice, so I’ll make her a little gift of bodywash, soaps, and powder. I have a handmade card and one from the little guy for her.  I’ll take one of my small tablecovers and maybe some flowers. It should be fun!

TV:  Not much in the summer lineup is appealing to me. I watch The Rookies and Royal Pains but that’s about it. I’m going to get DVDs of Downton Abbey’s first two seasons and start watching them next year. Other than that I’m looking for anything to keep me amused – my baseball team is awful this year.

Reading:  I took a suggestion from Webster and got Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn and I’m thoroughly enjoying it! I also ordered Judy’s suggestion of Jan Karon books. And I’m finishing up all the Barbara Delinsky novels.

A Must-Hear:  Robert Parker from The Gifts of MS left a recording of his organ performance at his last commencement ceremony. You have to listen to this – it’s magnificent! He is such a talented man and I love reading his blog.

That’s all for now!

Peace,

I am so relieved you're back. I had visions of Karen and me having to do detective work again so we could find you. I hope you enjoy the Karon books. I have not read them in years, but they were lovely, easy reading. I hope you start at the beginning of the series. I forget the Father's name, but he does go through major life changes as the series goes along so it is best not to start at the end.

My husband and I were talking this morning about how fast weeks go by. I know part of it is getting older.........a big part of it is not working and watching the clock all day....every thing has its good and bad I guess!!! Have a fantastic weekend!!

It's so nice of you to bake a party cake and bring all the trimmings. I hope it is enjoyed by all (I'm sure it will be.) And I am so glad you are liking Ella ... It's a hoot as it goes on. What other epistolary novels do you recommend?

Thanks for the heads up, I'll go over and listen right now. By the way, it's so funny you would mention the bladder thing today. I just peed on myself this afternoon!

Judy, the priest is Fr. Tim, and I am planning to read the series in chronological order. The first one is halfway read...

Karen, you enjoy your weekend as well. We're getting hotter here!

Janie, Lovely getting older, isn't it???

Webster, I finished the book and it was a hoot. What a different type of read that was!! I don't know of any recent epistolary novels that I've read. I used to do a short series with my students that were letters from the recipient of the twelve gifts of Christmas. I don't have it any more, but I'll see if I can find the title.

Nicole, hope you enjoy the recording as much as I, and I'm so sorry about the potty issues!!

Peace,
